From the Sparrowhawk Day Use Area, cross the highway (742), go up a hill on the High Rockies Trail spur to the junction with the High Rockies Trail (~750m). Take the middle trail at the junction up the hill toward Sparrowhawk Tarns. After ~600m (1.3 km from the highway) is the turn to Read’s Ridge. DO NOT TURN LEFT but continue straight for another ~2 km. When the forest breaks out to a massive rock fall, decide if you want to attempt to climb further if time permits or return the way you came.
Optional: On the return trip, at the junction to the High Rockies Trail, take the south branch to a waterfall approximately 100m along the trail at a bridge.
Daffern V3 – 84
In June there is much more water in the lower tarn than later in the summer. Before arriving at the ridge overlooking the first tarn there are many Larches which would be showing their fall colours in mid to late September.
