From the Sparrowhawk Day Use Area, cross the highway (742), go up a hill on the High Rockies Trail spur to the junction with the High Rockies Trail (~750m). Take the middle trail at the junction up the hill toward Sparrowhawk Tarns. After ~600m (1.3 km from the highway) is the turn to Read’s Ridge. DO NOT TURN LEFT but continue straight for ~3.8 km to the first lake (tarn) on the left (approx.. 5.1 km from the highway). You must cross a large boulder field to get there; look for small cairns to help you cross.  There are several other tarns farther down on the right that the B1s could explore if time permits.

Optional: on the return trip, at the High Rockies Trail junction, take the south trail for about 100m to a waterfall at a bridge.

Daffern V3 – 84

In June there is much more water in the lower tarn than later in the summer. Before arriving at the ridge overlooking the first tarn there are many Larches which would be showing their fall colours in mid to late September.
