This event is for A level hikers. Limit of 12 participants.
Rated as a long and strenuous hike with steep climbs and descents, scree and challenging scrambles. Spectacular views include the pinnacles of Gargoyle Valley, the towering face of Mt Louis and the vista of Forty Mile Valley.
14km return, 1168metres, 7-8hr duration.An early start, we’ll meet at 8:30 am by the barrier with boots on and ready to start hiking right away, so plan to get there a few minutes early; no toilet facilities in parking area, but some 1km further.
Park on the road adjacent to the barrier on Bow Valley Pkwy. We will walk approximately 1km to the trailhead at Fireside Picnic Area where there are toilets.Driving Instructions:Driving time is 1hr 20 min from Montgomery Community Centre.Head west on TransCanada past Banff and turn right at the Bow Valley Parkway (1A exit south end, just past Norquay turnoff, which isn’t posted now). Park on the roadside by the barricade.Bow Valley Pkwy has been closed to cars from Banff to Castle Junction all summer because of COVID reasons and there is limited parking at the entrance. It’s necessary for us to get an early start to secure parking as its popular with cyclists as well as hikers.Those members that feel comfortable car pooling are encouraged to arrange to meet at the Canmore Visitors Centre or somewhere suitable so that we can minimize the number of cars on the road by the barricade.Bring bear spray and radio if you have them. Don’t forget you Park Pass!
