Our polar vortex won’t last forever. Think ahead and hope for ideal condition! Here is a great opportunity to get into Cross Country skiing. No prior experience necessary. The lessons will proceed even if the bus doesn’t run due to COVID restrictions, but of course you would need to drive to Pocaterra Hut at Peter Lougheed Park.

Lesson 1

10:00 – 12:00 AM – instruction for newbies to cross country skiing (and others who would like to go back to the basics). This lesson will get you comfortable walking, then striding on skis, followed by some gentle up an down hill practice. Certified Instructor Eric Berlie will lead us again this year. Even experienced skiers found Eric’s instruction valuable.
In the afternoon,  an experienced Evergreen Member will take you out on the trails appropriate to your level to keep you safe and help you practice what you’ve learned in the morning.

Costs:
Two hour Lesson $20 (minimum 6 people needed maximum of 10) Payable on the bus or at the trailhead if you drive.

Lesson 2

12:30 – 2:30 PM – instruction for more experienced skiers wanting a refresher. The basics will be reviewed then extended.

Costs:
Two hour Lesson $20 (minimum 6 people needed maximum of 10) Payable on the bus or at the trailhead if you drive.

Rentals
Rental equipment Approximately $25 at most shops (for those who need it). Includes skis, boots and poles. Payable at the time of rental.
Nearest to Montgomery is Sports Rent on 16th Ave NW. You can pick up equipment there after 4 PM the day before and drop it off before 10 PM the day of.  It’s only a few blocks east of the Montgomery Community Centre. You may wish to rent elsewhere if it is more convenient for you. Most shops are very good at fitting you out properly. Other shop costs may vary. Tell them you’re an Evergreen Club member and you may get a discount.

NOTE: As for bus trips, you will need to delete your name from the website up until 6 PM on the Tuesday before the trip. After that you are committed and will be assessed the ski lesson cost if your name is still on the list. If the bus is running and you want to ride the bus, you will need to additionally sign up for the bus, when the bus trip is posted. (ie. sign up in two places, here for the lessons, and also on the July 13 bus trip posting).
