9:15 AM – Meet at the Montgomery Community Centre
9:30 AM – Join a variety of walks ( approx. 2 hours hiking time):
1. A/B1 – Sam will lead a vigorous walk through Bowmont Park and returning through Bowness. Note: this group will need to leave earlier – Sam’s group will meet at 8:15 for an 8:30 departure please.
2. B2/C –Dorothy Lloyd lives in the area and will lead a leisurely walk past Edworthy Park and on to the Parkdale Sculpture and return. If time allows she might lead you into Edworthy Park too.
3. A/B1/B2/C – Peter Dankers and Greg will lead history walks through Edworthy Park. We are a large group of 55 or so. Peter will lead half the group and Greg will lead the other half. Learn about Thomas and Mary Edworthy and family. Hear about their ranch, farming and market garden. Also learn about their sandstone quarries that provided the building blocks for many a building in early Calgary and beyond. This is Part 1 of many stories to be told about this area. Future hikes may tell of indigenous history, geology, palaeontology, biology and the many other early settlers to the area. Peter and Greg have lots of material to tell of in upcoming hikes. Hiking poles and icers are recommended as we will go off road in a few places.
4. A/B/C – Only attend the AGM and not hike that day.
